At Between Detailing we believe in giving back to the community and making a real difference. A cause that’s close to our hearts is making clean water accessible to everyone. With millions across the globe having no access to clean water, it weighed on our conscience to waste water and so we decided to use waterless detailing.
Did you know that on average washing your car with a hose and a bucket uses 80-140 gallons of water, and commercial car washes use an average of 45 gallons per wash?
Waterless detailing uses on average of 6-8oz of water. (Data from the International Car Wash Association). Water is a precious resource, freshwater accounts for only 2.5% of the earth’s water, most of which is frozen in glaciers and ice caps and less than 1% is readily available for direct human use.
“When it takes everyday hours to find and collect water, it's hard to find time for commerce and community. It's hard to get through a full day at school. It's hard to prosper without safe water.” (water.org)
Here in Hawaii and the rest of the United States, we take our access to clean, potable water for granted but others aren’t so fortunate. In some parts of the world, people have to walk miles everyday to fetch water for their daily needs and most times the water is contaminated. “Contaminated water and poor sanitation are linked to transmission of diseases such as cholera, diarrhoea, dysentery, hepatitis A, typhoid and polio.” Further, an estimated 842,000 people die each year from diseases passed on from unsafe drinking water. (World Health Organization). Water is a fundamental human need as it is so essential to life — a basic human right, yet 663 million people worldwide lack access to safe water and 2.4 billion people worldwide lack access to a toilet.
At Between Detailing we are committed to helping to the cause of making clean water accessible to all of our fellow human beings. Our chosen charity to help us towards this endeavor is water.org, which is an international nonprofit organization whose mission is to improve the lives of the poorest populations of the world by improving access to clean water, sanitation and hygiene. They have transformed more than five million lives around the world. Water.org was founded by Gary White and Matt Damon who have “been pioneering market-driven financial solutions to the global water crisis for 25 years, giving women hope, children health and communities a future.”
So remember that when you use our services, you’re also helping to bring clean water to families around the world who have a right to clean water just like you and me. Mahalo for supporting our business and helping towards making clean water accessible to all!
